Why Is Urban Forestry Important?
Urban Forestry is the management of a single tree or groups of trees located in an urban area. This includes trees on public and private property, along streets, in parks, around buildings, or on a campus. The urban forest provides many benefits including job opportunity, natural cooling, increased property value, air and water filtration, storm water management, and increased human health and recovery. According to the Arbor Day Foundation in 2019 there were an estimated 5.5 billion trees in the urban forests of the U.S., providing a value of more than $2.4 trillion in environmental services and other benefits. If not managed properly the benefits of these urban forests will be lost and could potentially cost communities more money.
