Metric was consulted to provide stormwater services for an INDOT slide correction project located on SR 1 near Guilford in Dearborn County, Indiana. Limited work area and steep terrain are variables that are typical on slide repairs, however this project was made even more challenging due to being located within the floodway of Tanner’s Creek and having to meet the requirements of the IDNR Construction in Floodway permitting. Additionally, SR 1 is a main thoroughfare for the area with no convenient detours, so the roadway could not be completely closed which added safety and logistical challenges to the project.
Metric developed the Stormwater Quality Control Plan (SWQCP) in accordance with INDOT standards prior to construction. The SWQCP is a supplemental piece of the Department’s Design that allows for contractors to have input on the sequencing and implementation of the erosion and sediment control plan.
In addition to plan development, Metric provided a Level 1 Stormwater Quality Manger to assist with implementation of the SWQCP. Metric provided guidance and oversight during mobilization to ensure proper implementation of measures for initial grading operations. Throughout construction, the Metric team has performed weekly and post-rain event inspections as required by 327 IAC 15-5 (Rule 5). Inspections include evaluation and reporting of best management practices (BMPs) as well as guidance and recommendations for maintaining compliance with IDEM, IDNR, and INDOT requirements.
